Mutia Riasinta Penyami Hite (nickname: Sinta) is originally from Indonesia. Her parents hailed from Poso in Central Sulawesi, one of the country’s main islands. Beginning her dance training at age five, she studied the art in earnest throughout elementary school. In Jakarta she began studying Pamonian dance under Rein Puragombo, a protégé of renowned Yogyakarta culturalist Bagong Kussudiarja, and choreographer of a new style of Pamonian dance (kreasi baru). At age ten, Sinta began performing at various venues including the Indonesia Miniature Park (Taman Mini Indonesia Indah).
In 1999, she relocated from Indonesia to the US. Never losing her passion for dancing, she began performing with members of the Indonesian community in Delaware at various community and school events. In 2008 she founded the Indonesian Cultural Club of Delaware (ICC) which has performed with Gamelan Semara Santi of Swarthmore College in many events, including the 2012 Astral Artists Concert Series. Her diverse dance experience ranges from traditional Indonesian folk dances, Modern, Hip-Hop and Latin styles.
In 2011 Sinta decided to start her own dance company which combines fusion and traditional dances called Modero Dance Company. In addition to leading Modero, Sinta is performed and traveled with the Salt Shaker Brigade, a dance team under the direction of George Dennis of Mambodelphia Entertainment and teaching traditional Indonesian dances to the students of Folk Arts Cultural Treasures Charter School (FACTS). Sinta is also a certified fitness and Zumba instructor, and enjoys her experiences teaching dance to children, adults, and senior citizens alike.
