Rama Festival

Hello, I’m Sinta Penyami Storms, the Rama Festival Curator & Cultural Advisor. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in this project. In the past, our traditional culture was often appropriated, and our community was exploited. It is truly refreshing to be able to represent our people in a respectful manner. I am excited to welcome everyone to engage with the community, highlight our local vendors, and educate the public about our culture. Please support our community events at the Rama Festival. You can find the details below. Should you have any questions, please feel free to email me at sinta@egopo.org. Sampai jumpa di Rama Fest!

Dangdut Brunch

SAT, June 15 at 12 PM – Join WonderWorks and DJ Rah for the very first Philadelphia’s Dangdut Brunch! DJ Rah will be mixing up some awesome Dangdut tunes, which is an awesome Indonesian music style that blends Arab and Malay folk with modern international beats. Fun fact: “dangdut” comes from the sounds of beating a drum by hand, “dang” and “dut”! Come grab some tasty Indonesian snacks, chill out, groove to great music, and hang out with amazing people! 🎶🥳

DJ Rah (he/they) is a Black-Indonesian American composer, multi-instrumentalist, beatmaker, and turntablist from Delaware. Ranging from piano & saxophone to 808s & trap drums, his compositions feature a diverse fusion of hip hop and jazz influence. They are currently pursuing a PhD in Composition & Computer Technology at the University of Virginia. In addition to having released three projects under the alias “Rah V”, he has performed as a solo musician, collaborated in various bands, ensembles of multiple genres, and has DJ’ed events across the East Coast.

Pencak Silat Demonstration & Workshop

SUN, June 16 at 5 PM. At this event, we will learn about Pencak Silat, the fascinating Indonesian martial art led by the esteemed PA Council on the Arts grantee and artist, Aditya Setyawan. Get ready for an opportunity to try out one or more Pencak Silat moves.

Aditya, a former certified Pencak Silat guru at the Ikatan Keluarga Silat Putra Indonesia Kera Sakti, dedicated himself to teaching teenagers and children while also establishing his own Pencak Silat school. In Indonesia, Pencak Silat served as both a defense mechanism and a unifying force within the community. In Philadelphia, Aditya seamlessly integrates Pencak Silat into his daily routine, using it as a holistic exercise for the mind and body.
